#### 1. Visa Requirements
Most travelers need a visa to enter Sri Lanka. You can apply for an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) online before your trip. The process is straightforward, and the visa typically allows for a stay of up to 30 days, which can be extended once you're in the country. However we recommend its best to check for latest updates in your country based on your passport.
#### 2. Currency and Payments
The official currency is the Sri Lankan Rupee (LKR). It's advisable to carry some cash for small purchases, as not all places accept credit cards. ATMs are widely available in cities and tourist areas, but ensure you inform your bank of your travel plans to avoid any issues with card transactions. Please us the ATMs at banks only in a safe environment. Please note that you can exchange money at the Airport on arrival too.
#### 3. Language
Sinhala and Tamil are the official languages, but English is widely spoken, especially in tourist areas. Learning a few basic phrases in Sinhala or Tamil can be helpful and appreciated by locals.
#### 4. Weather and Best Time to Visit
Sri Lanka has a tropical climate with two main monsoon seasons. The best time to visit the west and south coasts, including Weligama, is from December to March. The east coast is best from May to September. Always check the weather forecasts before planning your trip.
#### 5. Cultural Etiquette
Sri Lanka is a predominantly Buddhist country with deep-rooted traditions and customs. When visiting temples and religious sites, dress modestly, covering your shoulders and knees. Remove your shoes and hats before entering. Always show respect for local customs and traditions.

Sri Lanka has a well-connected transportation network, including buses, trains, and tuk-tuks. Trains are a scenic and affordable way to travel between cities. Tuk-tuks are convenient for short distances, but always agree on a fare before starting the journey or ensure the meter is running.
International driving licences can be used – please ensure your lience is valid in Srilanka. Please note that before you rent a 2 or 4 wheeler – you may need to report your licence to the local authorities in Srilanka. Avoiding this is considered as an offence and there is regular checking of licences for all vehicles.
#### 7. Health and Safety
Ensure you have comprehensive travel insurance that covers health and medical emergencies. It's recommended to have vaccinations for Hepatitis A and B, typhoid, and tetanus. Drink bottled or filtered water to avoid waterborne diseases, and be cautious with street food.
#### 8. Local Cuisine
Sri Lankan cuisine is diverse and flavorful, with an emphasis on spices and fresh ingredients. Don't miss out on trying local dishes like rice and curry, hoppers, and kottu roti. If you have dietary restrictions, communicate them clearly, as spicy food is common.
#### 9. Dress Code
Light, breathable clothing is ideal for the tropical climate. However, for visits to religious and cultural sites, modest dress is required. Beachwear is acceptable at resorts and beaches but not in public places away from the coast.
#### 10. Internet and Connectivity
Wi-Fi is available in most hotels, cafes, and restaurants. You can also buy a local SIM card with data at the airport or in major cities.
